Dr. L.Mahadevan
Dr. L. Mahadevan was born on January 19th, 1969 in Derisanamcope, Kanyakumari, and was the grandson of Dr. Y. Mahadeva Iyer, founder of Sri Sarada Ayurvedic Hospital. His journey into Ayurveda began at Sri Venkataramana Ayurveda College, Chennai, under the mentorship of Dr. B. Vaidyanathan, who introduced him to Guna and Rasa-based treatments—a phase he described as the awakening of his "Third Eye of Knowledge." In 1997, he completed his post-graduation in Kayachikitsa from Government Ayurveda College, Trivandrum, guided by stalwarts like Dr. Sankaran Kutty, Dr. M.R. Vasudevan Namboothiri and late Dr. Sankaran. He earned a Ph.D in 2020 for his ground-breaking thesis.
Expanding his expertise beyond Ayurveda, he mastered Vedanta, Yoga Sutras, Upanishads, Samkhya, Nyaya, Vaiseshika, modern medicine, and the Siddha system. A gifted orator, he captivated audiences with his blend of Sastras, modern medical insights, and humour. Dr. Mahadevan authored 74 books and produced 19 CDs, simplifying Ayurveda for Tamil-speaking audiences worldwide.
Committed to education, he established a Guru-Shishya Parampara, offering free food, accommodation, and stipends to students, personally training over 500 scholars. Renowned for his ethical practice, he consulted 80–100 patients daily and earned accolades such as the "National Dhanwantari Award" (2023), "Best Doctor Award" (2012), and "Best Writer Award" (2011). His untimely passing on April 8, 2024, left a profound void in the Ayurveda community.
MAHADEVAM - 2025
Dr. L. Mahadevan, a devoted advocate of the Guru-Shishya Parampara, left an indelible mark on Ayurveda through his contributions to education, research, and publications. Inspired by his mentor, Dr. B. Vaidyanathan, he organized two national seminars, “VAIDYANADHAM,” fostering continuous learning and practice.
To honour his legacy, we, his students, in collaboration with the Sarada Mahadeva Iyer Ayurvedic Educational and Charitable Trust, proudly present “MAHADEVAM – 2025.” As we mark the first anniversary of his passing, this International conference on Ayurveda Approach to Clinical Gastroenterology celebrates his innovative integration of modern diagnostics and Ayurvedic principles, inspiring hope and advancing the field.

Founded in 1920 by Dr. Y. Mahadeva Iyer in Derisanamcope, Sri Sarada Ayurvedic Hospital has been a hub of healing and learning for over a century. Renowned for its diagnostic precision and high curability rates, the hospital earned nationwide acclaim under Dr. K. Chidambaram and the late Dr. L. Mahadevan. Today, it continues to flourish under their guidance.
Beyond healing, the hospital functions as a Gurukulam, teaching Ayurveda to students and physicians. Focused on Guna Siddhanta diagnosis and blending Ayurveda with modern science, it upholds Dr. Mahadevan’s legacy, ensuring his wisdom reaches future generations.
